Okay, so where did the name come from?

It’s a fun TV reference.

If you guessed that our name was a reference from The Office - or better yet, if you read it and followed up with the line “I like Pretzel Day!”, there’s a good chance you’re our kind of people.

In the show, the office park brings in a soft pretzel cart once a year for the employees to get whatever kind of pretzel and toppings they want. It’s here that the infamous office grump, Stanley, shares a memorable line about loving this day.

“I wake up every morning in a bed that's too small, drive my daughter to a school that's too expensive, and then I go to work to a job for which I get paid too little. But on Pretzel Day…well I like Pretzel Day.”

You see, Stanley was anything but happy about most circumstances in his life. On this one day, however, we get to see a smiling, excited, joyful Stanley and that emotion is what we wanted our name to encapsulate. We want everyday to feel like Pretzel Day - for us, for our clients and for the people we interact with day in and day out.

It also has biblical context.

Both salt and light are referenced numerous times throughout the Bible - salt, for it’s many different uses such as seasoning (improving quality), a preservative (making something last over time) and a disinfectant (purifying) among other things; and light, for it’s symbolism of holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, grace, hope, and God's revelation.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:13-16

These are qualities and characteristics we aim to carry throughout every aspect of our company, so we also see our name as a fun little nod to something both salty and light (though it’s a different kind of ‘light’) - a pretzel. It intertwines biblical meaning of attributes we strive to live out, and quirky fun (which are also two adjectives we’ll claim.)
