Hey! I’m DJ.

I started freelancing full-time in 2018, but have been designing for churches for about 15 years in various roles. I’ve been an intern, apprentice, staff designer, creative director, and a contracted freelancer. I’ve gotten to work with small church plants in rural areas, large multi-site churches in big cities, and everything in between.

Before this, I was a creative producer for a billion-dollar marketing company during the day and freelancing for churches at night. I was exhausted, creatively drained, and wanting to spend more time with my wife and newborn daughter. Out of this, Pretzel Day was born, and I’m grateful every day that I get to support my family while creatively supporting the church at large.

A few more things about me:

I’m fluent in GIFs.

No matter how you pronounce it, my text conversations quickly surpass the blue bubble.

We’ve moved a lot.

After 9 addresses in 9 years and a season of full-time travel, we’ve slowed down quite a bit, but we still jump at any chance we get to visit our clients. Just say when.

I love pro wrestling. (I know, I know)

Anything from WWE to small indie shows in VFW halls - I’m a nerd for it all.

I like to have a good time.

I was a high school and collegiate mascot, and spent eight years as a youth ministry leader.

Socially, I’m old school.

I’m a big fan of technology and trends in my work, but I really value being able to sit down for lunch or coffee, shake your hand, or give a hug.

She takes care of all the admin stuff so I can spend my time creating and connecting. She’s a super type-A, Ivy League educated, manager of all things who keeps me, our family, and Pretzel Day on track.

I’m the designer, but nothing would happen without Amy.

Why the name Pretzel Day?

The short answer is that it’s a fun reference from a TV sitcom, but there’s a little more to it than that.
